Origins
Tale of Doom began as the backstory for a video game that never went past the planning phase. The story has been in development in one form or another for the better part of a decade. Most revisions of it up until the last few have been awful.
Volume 1 of the book was released on January 28th 2015 and Volume 2 was published on the 2nd of January 2019.
Continuation
Tale of Doom Volume 1 and Volume 2 tell a complete story and attempt to set up a world in which other stories will take place. These will be released over the coming years, no exact time frame being available at this time. The initial intention was to write a total of 10 books in this series, which was set to end with Tale of Doom 2: End Times.
This schedule has since changed, though the end of the series will still be Tale of Doom 2: End Times. The other books are currently in a state of flux, only 3 of them being currently planned to be written within the next 5 years. Their temporary names are:
Eternal
Starlance
Planechaser
There is no release date yet available for these books, but Eternal is in development as of 2020.
